Oracle Business Intelligence Suite: Enterprise Edition is Oracle's BI
application stack acquired from their Siebel acquisition and
previously known as Seibel Analytics.
The Oracle Business Intelligence Suite
Enterprise Edition (EE) is a suite of enterprise BI
products, including interactive
dashboards, ad hoc analysis, alerts, enterprise
reporting and disconnected analytics. Oracle Business Intelligence Suite EE is based on
the proven and mature Siebel Analytics platform.
Oracle BI Enterprise Edition includes the following components:
|
Oracle BI Server
|
Previously known as Siebel Analytics Server. This
dedicated BI server provides the common business model
and abstraction layer for the analytics applications.
Oracle BI server supports access to multiple data
sources, including relational databases (Oracle, SQL
Server, etc), OLAP sources (Analysis Services, Oracle
OLAP) and offline sources (Excel, XML, etc) amongst
others. |
|
Oracle BI Answers |
Previously known as Siebel Answers. Provides Ad-hoc
query and reporting against the semantic layer developed
in Oracle BI Server. The Answers component is the most
comparable with the Oracle Discoverer product of the BI
Standard Edition. |
|
Oracle BI Interactive Dashboards |
Previously known as Siebel Intelligence Dashboards.
Provides rich dashboard environment for deploying
analytic queries and reports developed in Oracle BI
Answers. Dashboards is the primary interface for users
of the BI EE suite and allows data from multiples
sources to be reporting in a central portal environment. |
|
Oracle BI Delivers |
Previously known as Siebel Delivers. Provides data
monitoring and alerting capabilities. |
|
Oracle BI Disconnected Analytics |
Previously known as Siebel Mobile Analytics. Provides
offline analytics functionality. |
|
Oracle BI Publisher
|
Previously known as Oracle XML Publisher. Provides
enterprise reporting and distribution of presentation
quality reports. |
|
Oracle BI Briefing Books |
Previously known as Siebel Briefing Books. Provides
snapshots of dashboard pages for viewing and
distribution offline. |
Implementing Oracle BI Suite EE involves using the Oracle BI
Server administration tool to develop Physical, Business and
Presentation layer models of the data sources. Queries from the
front end tools (the user view of the presentation layer) are
passed back through the business layer (dimensional model) and
then the physical layer back to the mapped data sources. In this
way, all data is retained and all data processing performed in
the source systems rather than by the Oracle BI Server. For
common queries, data can be cached by Oracle BI Server to
optimize query performance (and the caches can be preloaded
following data updates in the source systems using scheduled
Oracle BI Delivers iBots).
Oracle BI EE is currently promoted by Oracle as an optional
upgrade path for existing Oracle BI customers using Discoverer,
Portal & Reports. These existing Oracle products will themselves
continue to be developed separately as part of the Standard
Edition suite but will be merged together at some point in the
future.
